RNDr. Tomáš Kuèera, Ph.D.

(born 1968, Prague) studied Geobotany and Plant Ecology in Charles University, Prague, and graduated in 1991 with the thesis devoted to the meadow communities in the Krivoklatsko Biosphere Reserve. In 1991–1995 he was a postgraduate student in the Department of Botany, Charles University, Prague. The doctoral thesis “Relationship of Vegetation Diversity and Georelief” was finished in 1997. In 1996–1998 employed at Foresta SG Co., Laboratory of Remote Sensing and GIS (Prague), and focused on remote sensing. In 1998-2004 worked in the Institute of Botany, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, section of Plant Ecology in Trebon. In 2005 to 2010 vice-director of the Institute of landscape ecology, later Institute of system biology ASCR. Since 2011 lecturer and researcher at the Faculty of Science, since 2016 Associate Professor of Applied and Landscape Ecology,University of South Bohemia, Ceske Budejovice.

He was an external lecturer of Phytosociology (Charles University, Prague), Landscape Ecology (Masaryk University, Brno, Palacký University, Olomouc), and Conservation Biology (University of South Bohemia, Ceske Budejovice). He participated in projects “Landcover Changes During the Last 40 Years After Dereliction”, “Synanthropization of the Flora of Small-sized Natural Reserves”, “Sources of Vegetation Diversity, their Spatial Pattern in Regional Landscape Scale (GrantAgency of the Czech Republic), “Vegetation of Brambles – an Example of Coenogenesis of Apomictic Plants Parametrization of Phytosociological System Using Large Datasets Biotope Catalogue of the Czech Republic, Habitat Red data book of the Czech Republic, Significance of ice-retaining screes as natural landscape GCC observation system. In 1997 and 1998, he took part in two training courses in the Unit of Vegetation Science, Lancaster University, focusing to GIS mapping and analysis of criteria for the Red Data Books.

In 1994–1996 he was the executive co-editor of the journal Preslia, and in 1995–1998 he was the executive editor of the journal Zprávy České Botanické Společnosti. He published over 50 scientific papers, 30 book chapters in the fields of botany, landscape ecology and biological conservation, and some more popularisations and book reviews. He edited 6 proceedings volumes on the vegetation monitoring. In 2000-2004 he was a member of Working group of Ministry of Environment for implementing acquis communautaire in section of nature conservation.
